Atsuko Hirayanagi is an award-winning filmmaker based in SF. She is a recent graduate of NYU Tisch School of The Arts, Asia, with an MFA in Film Production, where she received a three year full-merit scholarship from Singapore’s Cathay Organization. 

Atsuko’s MFA 2nd year project, “Mō Ikkai”, won the Grand Prix as well as the Japan Competition Best Short and the Audience awards at 2012 Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia. Her thesis short, “Oh Lucy!” won numerous awards globally, including 2nd place at 2014 Cannes Film Festival (Cinéfondation), an honorable mention at 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, the Short Film Jury Award: International Fiction at Sundance Film Festival 2015, as well as the Best International Short Film at Flickerfest, Vail Film Festival, Janela Internacional de Cinema do Recife, and Guanajuato International Film Festival. 

In 2014, Atsuko received NYU Tisch Asia’s 1st Prize Wasserman Award. The short screenplay of “Oh Lucy!” also won 1st prize and partial funding at NYU Tisch Asia’s thesis script competition, and 1st prize at NYU New York’s 2012 Fusion Film Festival in the Graduate Short Screenplay category.
